From the ashes of disbanded metal band, Violent Mood Swing, comes
Six Foot Deathtrap: the five-member powerhouse that combines many
different metal elements into a completely unique sound. Composed
of vocalist Zack, guitarists Rock and Reuben, Derek on bass, and
Johnny on drums, this local San Diego band has overcome many
obstacles to get where they are today. Whether it be the cutthroat
music scene of past, or the six months of lineup changes in the
band, SFD's hard work and dedication has finally paid off. With a
steady lineup of talented musicians and a very strong will to
succeed, the band has nothing to hold them back, or as Rock put it,
"Here forward is what we’re all about." At the current moment, Six
Foot Deathtrap is all about their debut LP titled, "Vindication."
Self-produced with the help of Eric Meyer (guitarist for Brick Bath)
and recorded at HLR Studios, this fourteen track metal monster
promises to deliver some pure, unadulterated, in your face metal.
Look for it on August 27th at local Music Trader stores or order it
from their website sixfootdeathtrap.com.
Now that Vindication is complete, SFD is not taking any time off. They
plan to go on the road and tour away from San Diego to spread their music
all over the states. Some places of interest for the band is Orange
County, where there are a lot more all ages venues than San Diego has to
offer. Also, the same area that gave birth to such bands like Avenged
Sevenfold, Atreyu and Thrice.
Having the privilege to see Six Foot in action tonight at Cane's in
Mission Beach for the Paulette Valenzuela tribute show, I can
honestly say that this band is a force to be reckoned with. SFD
puts everything they got into their live performance. Zack's
vocals are very impressive. He can go from an aggressive growl to
a melodic clean voice, and back again. Rock’s rhythm guitar is
very solid throughout the entire show, much more than a few power
chords; his riffs are complex and played at blistering speed.
Johnny offers up some very technical drumming, from a tricky back
beat to a head pounding double bass pedal breakdown. He does it
all. Derek's bass skills were impressive. He matches the speed of
Rock’s rhythms without even using a pick. Something you won't see
that often. Last but not least, lead guitarist Reuben lays down
some of the most amazing solos I have seen from any San Diego local
band. Utilizing such techniques as sweep picking, legato, and
tapping, Reuben did nothing but blow my mind tonight. For the
grand finale of the show, Media Lab's front man, Sean Nelson, and
the guitarist from Aghori joined Six Foot Deathtrap on stage for a
three-guitar attack titled "Fallen." Which gave the bouncers at
Cane's a little workout breaking up the mosh pits, the perfect
tribute to slain local San Diego music legend, Paulette Valenzuela.
Any show that can cause mosh pits at Cane’s on a Wednesday night is worth
going to, so be sure to check out Six Foot on August 27th at Dreamstreet.
They will be playing with Conflict of Interest, Media Lab, I Matador,
and Perpetual Death Mode (Reuben's brother's band).
