A local favorite in the Denver metal scene, Fear Before The March Of Flames does nothing short of fully ‘bringing it’ with their third album, ‘The Always Open Mouth’.
The album starts with a soft and sweet piano melody, and melancholy lyrics they quickly switches to the FBTMOF style of rough metal guitar with strong screamo vocals that yell and screech, paired with sweet and soft female backing vocals run that throughout.
Experimenting with poppy beats proved to be a good way for the guys to go with this record. On ‘the waiting makes me curious’ does just that, you wait for the song to reach it’s full potential of heaviness but instead it leaves you with a soft piano ending when you wanted it to only get louder and harder as it went on. This album is surprisingly softer than the previous FBTMOF albums, they give you more melodic tones with the backing of the heavy screaming vocals. The album is a good mix of raw and sweet. The fading out lyrics that chant ‘everything will not be made right’ on the album closer find themselves repeating in your brain long after the CD’s end.
