When you review CDs, you never know what your going to get. Sometimes, you get a nice surprise, such is the case with 1997’s ‘...a better view of the rising moon’. The debut album from this Chicago band opens raw, but sweet with amazing mix of keys and guitar. A mix of male and female vocals that are paired beautifully together, bring the melody and lyrics together. Lyrics like ‘troubled boy, I’ll kiss you one last time’… ‘Now that I have you can I use you as a muse and keep you up all night’ leave you with a love song feeling that move throughout the entire album. 1997 is nothing like most of the bands that are out right now, poppy, but not annoying, punk but not hard, raw but played well, sweet dual vocals flow over the music with ease, nothing that makes you want to cringe. They bring catchy beats that can be a little choppy at times, but with this band, it fits amazing lyrics are found all over this album.
